ReferenceGlossary
Synchronous replication
Replication where the primary confirms a write only after at least one replica has also stored it. No acknowledged write is lost if the primary fails, but every write waits for the round trip to the replica.

The Synchronous replication Research says that writes wait for a replica, but today it only unlocks Consensus databases; it does not change Read Replicas or the Database. The closest thing the game models is Distributed SQL: every write waits for a majority of its replicas, so writes across regions pay the round trip. A Database with a Standby also fails over in seconds when its zone fails.
