Availability zone
An isolated data center, or group of data centers, inside a cloud region, with its own power, cooling, and network. Zones in one region are close enough for fast links, and far enough apart that one failure rarely takes down two.
Reliability
In Quorum#
The game calls these Zones. After Multiple zones research, you can place each zoned Node in zone a, b, or c, and give a Database, Pooler, Cache, Search Engine, or Queue a Standby in another zone at twice its Burn. A call between zones costs 1 ms more and $0.01 per GB of Egress both ways. A Zone outage takes down every Node in one zone; a Standby takes over in about 20 s, and copies in another zone keep serving.
