Network partition

A network failure that splits a system into groups of nodes that cannot reach each other, while each group keeps running. During a partition a distributed system must choose between staying available and staying consistent (the CAP theorem).

The Network partition Incident can start in Series C when Links cross regions. For up to 45 s every call between regions times out, except calls from Users and to global Components such as the CDN, and leader-based writes diverge. Press Fence leader to end it. A Distributed SQL Node, which keeps one Raft leader, makes the Incident less likely.
