Compression
Encoding a response in fewer bytes before it goes over the network, for example with gzip or Brotli. The client decodes it. It saves bandwidth and transfer time and costs CPU on both ends.
Performance
In Quorum#
Compression research lets you turn on gzip for each App Server. Its page, read, search, and bot responses shrink to 30% of their size, and those requests cost 10% more CPU. Smaller responses reach users sooner, use less of the box's network card, and cut origin Egress. Other kinds, such as upload and media, stay the same size.
