Rate limiting

Capping how many requests a client can make in a period and rejecting the rest, often with HTTP 429 Too Many Requests. It protects a service from abuse, scrapers, and one noisy client, and lets a provider share capacity fairly. Common algorithms are the token bucket, the leaky bucket, and fixed or sliding windows.

You meet rate limiting from the client side: the LLM API takes 100 prompts per second per usage tier, and past that, prompts fail at once as throttled. The game has no rate limiter you can put in front of your own App Servers. To stop abusive traffic, a WAF blocks bots by rule instead: 80% of bots at paranoia 2, with 0.5% of real users blocked too.
