ReferenceGlossary
Object storage
Storage that keeps files as objects in a flat namespace, each with a key, the data, and metadata, reached over an HTTP API. Services such as Amazon S3 scale almost without limit and charge for the bytes stored and moved. It suits uploads, images, video, and backups that a database handles badly.

Until you place Object Storage, the Database stores uploads as rows: each 2 MB blob-put costs it 60 ms of CPU. The Object storage Research unlocks Object Storage, which takes uploads and file reads with no capacity limit and 40 ms of latency. Its Burn grows with every GB stored, at the S3 Standard price, so the bill keeps rising as users upload.
